The Algonquin tribe normally lived in either a wigwam or a longhouse. The wigwams were for a single family unit, while the longhouses were for multiple families from the same clan. In winter, generally the village split up to go in hunting camps, where they would build temporary, cone shaped shelters called tipis to be discarded when the family needed to move. At the end of winter, the family would move back to their permanent village.
